Goal 2: No Hunger

A profound change of the global food and agriculture system is needed to nourish the more than 690 million people who are hungry today. Increasing crop health and sustainable farming practices are crucial to help alleviate hunger.

Sentient Life Sciences microbial technology supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2.3 to double the agricultural productivity of small-scale farmers and aquafarms; and, Goal 2.4 to ensure sustainable food production systems and resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production that help maintain ecosystems and progressively improve land and soil quality.

Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all ages is essential to sustainable development. More than 5.3 million deaths occurred in children less than 5 years old – many of which were preventable – with nutrition-related factors that contribute to 45 per cent of these deaths.

Sentient Life Sciences is at the forefront of sustainable, biological alternatives to reduce environmental impact to develop solutions in support of UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.9 to help reduce deaths and illness from hazardous chemicals in the air, water and soil pollution. Eliminating contamination of runoffs carrying chemical pesticides and herbicides from agricultural lands and reducing acidification of soil from the oxidation of pyrite are only a couple of the solutions towards ensure human health and well-being.

Goal 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns

Each year, an estimated one third of food produce goes to waste. Humanity must rely on only 0.5 per cent of the world’s fresh water. Agriculture is the largest water consumer accounting for 69 per cent of annual water withdrawals globally. Land degradation, declining soil fertility, unsustainable water use, and overfishing create food security issues globally.

Roughly 80 per cent of marine and coastal pollution originates on land – including agricultural run-off and pesticides. Coastal waters are deteriorating due to pollution and eutrophication.
